Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da

I was a goofy kid and liked to draw so I loved the funny pages. My parents encouraged me to write to my favorite cartoonists and I was on cloud nine when I got replies from the offices of Bill Watterson, Charles Schulz, Gary Larson, and Jim Davis. They sent some great art and advice.
Following their advice, I kept practicing and created a portfolio. One lucky day, my Mom dropped it off at our local paper and I got a cartooning job! I became the Yucaipa News Mirror’s editorial cartoonist and they published my comics.

So during my teenage years I’d stay up late cartooning while listening to The Beatles, then my Dad would drive me to the newspaper’s office to hand in my comics before school. That was the only homework that mattered to me because I wanted to be a cartoonist, but had to teach myself how to do it. Now I’m a member of the National Cartoonists Society, and still enjoy my homework.
